Confident Lasiri has a plan to wrest Prajanchai’s gold

-

Joseph Lasiri will face the biggest challenge of his career when he squares off with Prajanchai PK Saenchai for the One strawweight Muay Thai world championship at One: 157 Petchmorakot vs Vienot on May 20 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Italian-Moroccan star has been on fire in the One circle of late, and his two back-to-back wins, including a firstround knockout of Asahi Shinagawa in his last outing, have proven that he deserves a shot at One gold.

Lasiri is in peak condition ahead of his world title tussle, and despite his opponent’s jaw-dropping record, he’s focused more on his performance than what the world champion will be bringing.

“Everyone who practises Muay Thai knows Prajanchai. He has a unique and elegant style. I am a huge fan of his, but what I have in front of me now is the opportunity of a lifetime,” Lasiri said.

“I will not enter the circle thinking about my opponent. I will go there with the mindset of achieving my goal. I will go there to bring something important home for all the people who helped me to get here.”

Prajanchai has almost 400 fights to his name with 338 wins. In addition to his One strap, he holds two world championships from the renowned Lumpinee and Rajadamnern stadiums.

Even with the pronounced difference in experience, though, Lasiri is sure that he’ll bring a level of output that the Thai legend won’t be able to withstand.

“My focus will be to make Prajanchai quit, mentally. I will not focus on his boxing skills, but I will focus on imposing a super-high rhythm that even a champion like Prajanchai cannot bear,” he said.

“I want to bring a real toe-to-toe fight.

My intention is to impose a really high rhythm on the match. I want to pull him out of his comfort zone. That will be my main goal for this title bout.”
