ARTISTS REFLECT ON SNOW

-

Four artists have joined hands to present their impressions and interpretations of winter during “When Snowflakes Fall” at the RCB Photographers’ Gallery 2, 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, until Jan 5.

Though snow is a wonderful gift from the sky that people of all ages enjoy, its glittering beauty masks hidden dangers underneath. Our bodies protest; hands become numb and cold; skin frost-bitten.

But even the worst snowstorm won’t deal as much damage as the avalanche of anguish that follows rejection, likely to bury us in heartbreak.

The multidimensionality of snow is portrayed through works by illustrator and art designer Zito Hsu; illustrator and character designer Napath Kuntaruck, aka Fahfahs; Piyaphach Jeeno, aka Art Jeeno; and Darisa Karnpoj, aka Riety.

A graduate of the Institute of Illustration, Kingston University, London,

Zito Hsu paints with blue tones and focuses on themes of childishness rendered with a rich and varied range in order to let people feel the emotions under the calm, just like an iceberg that carries a bit of dormant unease.

Fahfahs tells the stories of a girl with beautiful hair, round eyes and long eyelashes — designed to represent herself, frequently employing soft pastel colours to make viewers feel rejuvenated and uplift their energy.

Art Jeeno is an award-winning manga artist, illustrator and designer renowned for his unique linework and beautiful colouring while Riety is a storyteller, artist and actress who ventures into the annals of history, myth, science and the arts with an abiding sense of wonder.
