A’s trounce Braves, end 11-game skid

Ryan Noda highlighte­d a four-run fifth inning with a three-run homer as the Oakland Athletics ended an 11-game losing streak, beating the visiting Atlanta Braves 7-2 on Monday.

The A’s had two runners on and one out in the fifth when Esteury Ruiz tied the game with a run-scoring single to left field.

Noda followed with a three-run blast to right field for his sixth homer of the season.

The rally came against Braves starter Michael Soroka (0-1), who was making his first start since Aug 3, 2020.

Soroka, back after tearing his right Achilles tendon twice, gave up four runs in six innings.

Matt Olson homered for Atlanta, while Austin Riley went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.

The A’s utilised four pitchers, including Lucas Erceg (1-0), who earned his first major league win after tossing three scoreless, hitless innings.

Aaron Judge hit two home runs, giving him an American League-leading 17 this season, as the Yankees won 10-4 at Seattle.

Jake Bauers also homered for the Yankees and Julio Rodriguez went deep for the Mariners.

Yankees right-hander Domingo German (3-3), making his first start since May 16 after serving a 10-game suspension for using illegal foreign substances, allowed four runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Mariners rookie Bryce Miller (3-2) was tagged for eight runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings.

At Los Angeles, Freddie Freeman extended his hitting streak to 18 games, JD Martinez hit a three-run home run and the Dodgers downed Washington 6-1.

Bobby Miller won for the second time in two career starts as the Dodgers came out on top for the 12th time in their past 13 home games. Miller (2-0) produced six innings of one-run ball.

CJ Abrams had an RBI single for the Nationals, who lost a series opener for the fifth time in their past six tries. Trevor Williams held the Dodgers scoreless through four innings before he gave up six unearned runs in the fifth.
