OBJECTS OF DESIRE
Whether it’s a piece of organic furniture, conceptual lighting or decorative art, Alexander Lamont’s exquisite creations are an expression of his devotion to detailed workmanship, rare materials and an artistic sensibility defined by a life lived between East and West.
The British designer, who has called Bangkok home for almost two decades, seeks his inspiration from objects of the past, nature, architecture, jewellery and the materials he works with, such as bronze, gold leaf and shagreen.
His Bangkok-based workshop employs over 100 Thai artisans who specialise in a diverse range of craft materials and techniques such as parchment, lacquer, eggshell, gesso, straw marquetry, gold leaf and bronze finishing. His work also features the use of regional materials like glass, ceramics and basket-ware. Melding traditions of the past with contemporary designs, the designer creates objects that can only be described as art.
His latest collection, Intarsia, can be found at his flagship store at Gaysorn Village
