GOLDEN MOMENTS
The world’s smallest tourbillon movement graces the head of BVLGARI’S latest Serpenti Seduttori incarnations
IN TANDEM WITH the Roman house’s tradition of setting world records in the horology realm, the recently unveiled Serpenti Seduttori Collection by Bvlgari features the smallest tourbillon, especially designed to fit inside the slim dimensions of the serpent-head case. Debuted at this year’s LVMH Watch Week Dubai 2020 were the Serpenti Seduttori Tourbillon women’s watches, which mirrored the success of Octo Finissimo’s world record on the men’s watches front.
Over the decades, Bvlgari has garnered a unique moniker as the ‘Jeweller of Time’, an apt autograph that speaks volumes about their rich jewellery-making heritage, and Swiss watchmaking know-how that dwells at the heart of every timepiece. Right from the beginning of their fabrication, function runs parallel to form down to the most minute degree. In its craft, each technical element must not only be immaculately wrought, but also exist within the distinctive design codes of the brand.
The genesis of the Serpenti began in the late 1940s, when designers transformed their cult high jewellery snake bracelet into a secret watch. Since then, the snake has time and again slithered its way into the spotlight in innumerable iterations. This year marks the serpent’s journey in a remarkable and rare tourbillon movement, the BVL 150 Calibre, in new models under the ‘Born to be Gold’ theme, as an ode to the golden moments of a woman’s life.
Designed to fit the drop-shaped contours of the Serpenti case, the diminutive movement is rhodium-plated, hand-decorated with Côtes de Genève, perlage, and beveling, and held together with a sapphire bridge. Ensuring technical considerations match the overall aesthetics, a transparent sapphire caseback is fitted at the level of the tourbillon to highlight the movement and decoration work. Other adaptations include a winding stem inclined at 6 degrees, located between 2h and 3h, and a special pavésetting designed to achieve the slimmest case possible.
Born to shine, the new Serpenti Seduttori models are crafted in rose gold or white gold, with pavé diamonds and a leather strap, or white gold with pavé diamonds and a full diamond bracelet. In addition to these styles, five new editions complete this year’s novelties. Following the classic Sepenti codes, these designs reimagine the typical snake-skin smooth bracelet to debut a precious version with diamonds, and one with alternating rose or white gold and steel.
