Pilot Prince
More than 75 years after it was written, the novella Le Petit Prince by the aristocratic French poetaviator Antoine de Saint-exupéry continues to inspire children of all ages. Over the years, the tale has also served to motivate a procession of limitededition Pilot’s Watches from the Schaffhausen manufacture IWC, the latest of which has just been released. In a 46mm stainless-steel case and with a lustrous sunray midnight-blue dial, the three-hand Pilot’s Watch Time zoner Edition “Le Petit Prince” features a blue ceramic rotating bezel that’s marked with 24 time-zone destinations around the world and moves the hour hand accordingly, as well as a date window at 3 o’clock and a 24-hour indicator at 12. At 15.2mm thick, this is a hefty timepiece indeed, though in characteristic IWC fashion it’s also handsome, legible and beautifully executed. Power comes from the 82760 automatic calibre, which offers a reserve of 60 hours and whose rotor is embellished with an engraved-gold representation of the prince, which can be viewed through the casebook crystal.
