INTENTIONAL CHANCE
Until May 22
Kitikong Tilokwattanotai’s bold and engaging abstract works are notable for their striking colour schemes, dynamic compositions, and ragged textures. However, this time it’s his powerful brushstroke technique that will draw viewers in. Using a highly gestural style, he provokes the imagination, inviting one to ponder the meaning of each piece, no matter how enigmatic or utterly non-linear it seems. His current solo show ‘Intentional Chance’, on for a few more weeks at SAC Gallery, wholeheartedly celebrates abstraction and gesture, with marvellous canvasses and compelling works on paper that bring to mind random ink blots, a child’s finger painting, quirky notepad doodles, accidental paint smudges, and minimalist collages. Born in Thailand’s northern province of Lampang, Kitikong graduated from Chiangmai University with a B.F.A. in printmaking, and later completed his Master of Art (printmaking) at the University of New South Wales Arts and Design in 2003.
