WHERE THERE’S A WILL
We had something very special planned for our 16th anniversary cover shoot, and not even a global pandemic was going to stand in the way of realising these ambitions. The plan was to feature Chayuda “Nina” Jiaravanon, who works as a private banker in Singapore. It so happened that several pieces from Bulgari’s stunning new Magnifica high jewellery collection made their way to the Lion City round about the same time.
However, we were faced with quite the predicament. It would be nearly impossible to send a crew over to Singapore, having to do quarantine on arrival there, and again on their return to Thailand.
Instead, we called on arguably the most famous celebrity photographer in Singapore, Wee Khim, and asked his team to handle the photo shoot for us, while we would coordinate everything remotely. Three days prior to the photo shoot though, the selected location (a very fancy venue) cancelled – due to heightened measures introduced by the Singaporean government towards managing the Covid-19 situation – and we had to change the location to a studio.
Despite the challenges we were faced with and some minor setbacks, all turned out well – in fact, spectacularly so, as is evident by this beautiful cover and
10-page spread (page 60). It just goes to show that persistence and perseverance always pay off handsomely.
