COUNTRY ABODE
In the charming city of Turin, capital of the Piedmont region in northern Italy, architect Fabio Fantolino has masterfully transformed a former print shop into a contemporary family home, perfectly complemented by a range of furniture creations from FLEXFORM
FROM LIVING AREAS and bedrooms that look onto the private garden, to a fluid succession of rooms that give the impression of a single architectural body, lending this residential masterpiece further appeal is an unexpected juxtapositions of materials. Concrete and laminates are used together, and so too are marble and rare wood – combined with obsessive attention to every construction detail – lending the design a distinct personality in a palette that ranges from shades of petrol green to burnt brown and cream.
In the spacious living room, seating in warm earth tones is placed in front of a bookcase, custom-designed by Fantolino. Rust-colour velvet upholstery lends a luxurious feel to the stand-alone Evergreen sofa. Other furnishings are clad in different materials and in various shades of brown – like the woven cowhide cord of the Peter armchairs and the rich Canaletto wood paired with Emperador marble in the Giano coffee table at the center of the room, or of the Jiff and Oliver side tables.
A Gipsy table with Canaletto walnut structure and pine green glossy lacquered top and comfortable Leda chairs fill the long dining room. The kitchen occupies the neoclassic part of the building. Here, the herringbone parquet floors contrast magnificently with the rich green of the cabinets, also designed by Fantolino.
In a corner nook protected by slatted wood partitions, the Zefiro outdoor dining table and Dafne dining chairs allow al fresco dining for a good part of the year. (Flexform is exclusively available at Arkitektura)
