FUTURE TENSE
Until February 28
The brand-new Jim Thompson Art Center (JTAC), which is located right around the corner from the historic Jim Thompson House, finally opened its doors last month, having been under construction since 2018. The inaugural art exhibition to launch the new space – the full title of which is ‘Future Tense: Imagining the Unknown Future, Contemplating the Cold War Past’ – is a group show exploring the aftermath of the Cold War. This multifaceted exhibition focuses on several ongoing socio-political issues, as seen through the eyes of 14 artists who come from distinctly different backgrounds and different parts of the world (representing Asian nations such as Thailand and Singapore, as well as far flung locales such as Norway, Mexico, and Columbia). As for the new building itself, it’s a bold slice of brutalist architecture that’s home to various installation rooms, a large library, a café, and a rooftop deck.
