Constructed Ecologies
La Lanta Fine Art presents a duo exhibition featuring two British artists, both of whom are (primarily) based in the south of Thailand. Entitled ‘Constructed Ecologies’, the show reflects upon the beauty and fragility of these tropical regions, with nods to rainforests, limestone hills, beaches and bays, as well as the huge areas of land covered in rubber and oil-palm plantations. From his home in Krabi, artist Ralph Kiggell (pictured) makes prints and collages of imagined plant species, pieced together as chimera. His process of water-based printmaking uses mostly materials drawn from nature, such as blocks of wood, mineral pigments, and handmade papers from Japan, Korea, and Thailand. By contrast, artist Dolores de Sade, who resides in Koh Samui, gathers found objects – mainly broken branches and driftwood – and assembles them into dioramas depicting hybrid landscapes. Also on display will be a series of de Sade’s exquisitely detailed black and white etchings that depict surreal twisting, rooted growths.
