VERRIDE PALÁCIO DE SANTA CATARINA

Newly added to the Small Luxury Hotels of the World portfolio is the magnificent Verride Palácio de Santa Catarina, located in Lisbon’s trendy Chiado quarter. The former residence of an 18th century Portuguese count, the building is surrounded by a labyrinth of winding lanes and stone-paved terraces. The restoration of the seven-storey structure was overseen by famed architect Teresa Nunes da Ponte, resulting in 19 rooms and suites that each incorporate exquisite design details. For the ultimate royal treatment, the lavish King’s Suite has a magnificent wooden coffered ceiling and a balcony with panoramic views of the River Tagus, while the equally grand Queen’s Suite features original 18th century stucco work, custom-made silk de Gournay wallpaper, and blue and white bathroom tiles dating back to 1901. On the top floor is the award-winning Suba Restaurant, which offers fabulous city views and a menu of classic Portuguese dishes reinterpreted with modern twists by Chef Fábio Alves.
