Blessings From the Forest / Fuoriclasse
Until March 5
Chinatown’s recently launched Over The Influence gallery (OTI BKK) currently has two artists on display within its multi-level interior, starting with the show ‘Blessings From The Forest’ by Thai artist Verapat Sitipol (pictured). Once described as a “Thai David Hockney”, Verapat’s works depict a kind of abstract scenery, where vivid splashes of colour – relaxing deep greens and browns, interspersed with lively reds, yellows, and violets – come together to suggest trees, gardens, woodlands, and mountains. Occupying the remainder of the gallery are the works of Italian-born Marco Pagani, a Los Angeles-based multimedia artist specialising in sculpture, painting, and video production. Having lived a fairly nomadic life, Marco explores concepts of interstitial nationalism, dwelling in a space between cultures and disciplines. His exhibition, entitled ‘Fuoriclasse’, blends the cultural dialectic of American, Japanese and Italian heritages, as the now 38-year-old artist has called all these places home for extended periods.
