TIME FLIES

-

As we are fast approaching the half-way mark of what is 2022, I am reminded of two things: how quickly time flies, and the fact that it’s the one thing you can’t buy more of – no matter how much wealth you have to your disposal. The fundamental thing about time is that, despite its lack of tangibility, its importance by far exceeds any monetary value. So then, considering what a precious commodity it is, it’s vital not to waste it on meaningless things. With so many distractions and so much ‘noise’ that surrounds our daily lives, that’s easier said than done.

I, for one, have spent way too much time over the past weeks following the Johnny Depp-amber Heard defamation trial (and the jury is still out on that one). In the meantime, I’m getting notifications from my phone to alert me to the fact that my screen time is showing a significant increase – as if I need a reminder. Eye roll.

I’ve learned another very important lesson recently: mindfulness. The term, I discovered while attending the launch of Banyan Tree Veya Phuket (page 120), refers to being more conscious about all our daily actions, thoughts, emotions, and overall lifestyle choices. The choices we make impact not only our physical but also mental wellbeing. Not being mindful can be detrimental and manifest itself in all sorts of ugly ways. The experience was an eye-opener and gave me a lot to ponder.

Everybody loves a rags-to-riches story; a tale of how a very ordinary person can go on the achieve extraordinary things. And that’s exactly the story of Wasana “May” Intasang, this month’s cover personality (page 56). Hailing from Thailand’s northeast region, May went from working minimum wage jobs, to becoming one of the biggest players in Thailand’s dietary supplement and beauty industry. Today, she’s the CEO of Revomed Thailand, and her road to success is nothing short of remarkable.

May also made the headlines recently after forking out a staggering 11 million Baht for license plate number RUAY (in Thai characters) followed by 8888. Ruay of course is the Thai word for “rich”, and the number 8 is considered as very auspicious and lucky. So we predict only good things for her on her quest for business domination.

Another prime example this month of “living large” is a once-in-a-lifetime trip to experience the virtually uninhabited and otherworldly landscapes of Antarctica with a company called White Desert (page 124). They are setting up an über-luxurious, space-themed camp called Echo, where a 5-6-day stay will cost upwards of around USD780,000 (THB 26,8 million) for a group of 12. You’ll be following in the footsteps of royalty from Jordan and Saudi-arabia; former astronauts Buzz Aldrin and colonel Terry Virts; Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex; and British adventurer, writer, and television presenter Bear Grylls.

And there’s more, much more to enjoy in this issue. Set some precious time aside for a special treat.

Enjoy!
