A special gala dinner was hosted to celebrate the 150-year relationship between Thailand and Belgium
150 years of Thai-Belgian relations are celebrated in style and a ghostly new video and performance arts series gets a spectacular launch
Thailand and Belgium signed the first Treaty of Friendship and Trade 150 years ago and to mark the occasion a royal gala dinner was held at The Athenee Hotel. Count Gerald van der Straten Ponthoz of the Chao Phya Abha Raja Foundation invited HRH Princess Lea of Belgium to jointly preside over the event with HRH Princess Soamsawali, who was represented by HSH Prince Chalermsuk Yugala due to ill health. The dinner was inspired by the state banquet hosted by TM King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit to welcome TM King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola when they visited Thailand in 1964. The dishes served then were recreated by the hotel, while direct descendants of the guests who attended the state dinner were among those invited.
