International commissioner of the National Scout Organization of Thailand Pansak Ransibrahmanakul has just returned from the 26th Asia-Pacific Regional (APR) Scout Conference, the governing body for the region which meets every three years. Hosted this time by the Philippines, the agenda included the 9th scout youth forum, course for leader trainers and awards for outstanding scouts.
At the meeting Dr Somboon Bunyasiri from Thailand was elected to serve as vice chairman of the Asia Pacific Regional Committee, with Pansak replacing him as vice chairman of the APR Scout Foundation Management Committee. Pansak was also selected to join the Gold Palm membership.
Scouting is a global youth movement with over 40 million members worldwide, of which more than 30 million are in the Asia-Pacific region. Twenty-seven national scout organisations are members of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee and the next regional conference will be held in Taiwan in 2021.
