PYC launches new sailing event

THE PHUKET YACHT Club (PYC) has confirmed a new event on the annual PYC sailing calendar to honour their previous commodore Mark Horwood.

The inaugural ‘Mark Horwood Classic Rally’ is being held in Marks’ memory on Sept 26, starting at 12 noon from Chalong Bay with an invitation extended to all yachts and power vessels to participate.

A gentleman’s sail and power-boat charity rally, the race will start adjacent to PYC then head around Koh Bon to port and return. Pending weather conditions a shortened course option may be selected to a bouy laid adjacent to Mark’s old Latitude 8 workshop. Details will be confirmed on the day.

The occasion is in partnership with the charity organisation One Phuket who have been providing assistance to those in need across the island during the COVID-19 pandemic by delivering food parcels and essential items. One Phuket have supported several sports-orientated fund raising events on the island recently such as Mark Gillett’s one-day marathon run from Promthep Cape to Sarasin Bridge and John Bennett’s recent Tour de Phuket.

There will be a complimentary BBQ supper for participants, supported by the team at ‘The Really Good Deli’. There will also be a complimentary carton of beer for the first three boat owners or crew presenting their PYC membership card on Sunday morning at the restaurant.

PYC will match each entry fee received, all of which will be donated to One Phuket.

Boat entry is B500. To register for the event visit the PYC website phuketyachtclub. com.
