Patong plans three-day party for Songkran
OFFICIAL CELEBRAtions in Patong for the Thai new Year Songkran festival will this year continue for three days for the first time.
Patong officials held a press conference on Friday (Mar 15) to outline plans for this year’s Songkran Festival celebrations.
Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat oversaw the press conference, which was held at 5pm at Bangla Plaza at Patong Beach, to share details on the “Songkran Music Festival On The Beach 2024”, to be held Apr 12-14.
Governor Sophon was joined by selected officials from Patong municipality, including Patong Mayor Chalermsak Maneesri, along with Phuket MP Chalermphong Saengdee, Patong Police Chief Pol Maj Gen Chalermchai Hirsawat, Patong Entertainment Business Association (PEBA) President Weerawit Kreuasombat, The Prism Co Ltd CEO Kan Prachamporn and Phuket Bike Week Association President Amarin Saranyasakul.
Governor Sophon explained that public and private sector entities are collaborating to make the Songkran Festival in Patong one that appeals to and attracts a significant number of people not only locally but throughout Thailand and the rest of the world.
This year will be the first where there is a threeday Songkran water splashing event in Patong, from Friday, Apr 12 through Sunday, Apr 14, with the official festival opening ceremony taking place on Saturday, Apr 13.
There will be a number of exciting activities taking place throughout the festival, predominantly at Bangla Plaza, including extensive water splashing fun, a Thai dance procession and performance, live musical entertainment from groups and prominent DJs, live traditional Thai dance and music performances and merit-making opportunities by offering dried food to monks and the pouring of water to ask for blessings from elders.
