Roadshow hoped to lure 1mn Chinese
PHUKET IS PREPARING for an extra 1 million tourists from China this year, expected after a tourism promotion in three Chinese cities.
Anupab Vejwanichsanong, Vice President of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO), said Apr 22 the organisers of the roadshow hoped it would attract an additional 1 million holidaymakers from China to the resort island by the end of this year.
It was expected the additional arrivals would inject about B40 billion in tourism-related revenue into the local economy, he said.
The ‘Amazing Phuket Roadshow to China 2024’ was coordinated by the PPAO with the Phuket Tourist Association, led by President Thaneth Tantipiriyakit.
The roadshow saw 35 Phuket tourism operators promote Phuket as a tourist destination in Guangzhou, Greater Shanghai and Chengdu from April 8-12, covering the target group of more than 70% of all Chinese tourists, said a report by the Phuket Tourist Association.
Last year the island province had about 1.7mn visitors from China, far behind the 3.1mn a year before the COVID pandemic disrupted global travel, noted the Bangkok Post.
The Phuket Tourist Association hopes the number of Chinese visitors will return to the pre-COVID levels next year.
