DREAMING THE FUTURE THROUGH ART AND DESIGN: RUSSIAN AVANT-GARDE
Sakip Sabanci Mardin City Museum offers a new group exhibition with the works from The State Museum of Contemporary Art in the Thessaloniki-Costakis Collection. The Russian Avant-garde, one of the most interesting movements in art history, which aimed to spread art to all areas of life at the beginning of the 20th century, is represented by its rich productions of paintings, design installations, literature, film and theater. In addition to the political, social and technological developments of the period, the exhibition expresses the belief in the progress of avant-garde artists who turned to science with the excitement of industrialization and transcended the borders of the world. The exhibition includes the works of various artists from the Costakis Collection, amassed by George Costakis to ensure that the works of the Russian Avant-garde are passed on to future generations, Kazimir Malevich, the creator of the Black Square, one of the iconic works of art history; Vladimir Tatlin, the pioneer of a new era in artistic theory by blurring the boundaries between art and production; Alexander Rodchenko, the pioneer of photography, painting, sculpture and graphic art; and Olga Rozanova, representing the flourishing of female artists in that period, whose works are based on the interaction between text and painting.
The exhibition is available at Sakip Sabanci Mardin City Museum from
Tuesday to Sunday between 8:30am and 5:30pm.
