YAPI MERKEZI UNDERTAKES USD 1.9BN PROJECT IN AFRICA

Constructi­on company Yapi Merkezi has undertaken the third phase of the 1,211-kilometer railway project to link Dar es Salaam with Mwanza City in Tanzania. The third phase of the project amounts to USD 1.9bn in investment. As part of the project, Yapi Merkezi will build seven stations between Makutupora and Tabora, a 358-kilometer single line, and will set up all related signalizat­ion, electrific­ation, and infrastruc­ture. The project is set to be completed within 46 months. “We’re close to finalizing the deal for the fourth phase of the project, consisting of 167 kilometers. We’ll contribute to our economy by providing foreign exchange input,” said Erdem Arioglu, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yapi Merkezi. The company is also working on the first and second phases of the Dar es Salaam-Mwanza City Railway Project, a line with a total length of 705 kilometers reaching from Dar es Salaam to Makutupora. “The first phase of the project is almost completed and be delivered in the first six months of 2022. The second phase will be completed at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. The fifth phase of the five-phase project will be completed by a Chinese company.,” said Basar Arioglu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yapi Merkezi.
