FOREIGN TRADE DEFICIT AT USD 133M IN 2021
Turkey’s foreign trade deficit was down 7.5% to USD 133m in 2021 compared to the previous year, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The country’s exports rose to USD 225.3bn in 2021, an increase of 32.8%, while its imports increased by 23.6% to USD 271.4bn. In December, the share of intermediate goods, capital goods and consumption goods in total imports was 79.3%, 13.1%, 7.4%, respectively. Excluding the energy and gold trade, Turkey’s exports and imports rose by 22.2% and 23.2% — USD 20.9bn and USD 21.6bn – respectively. The foreign trade deficit — excluding energy products and non-monetary
gold — was USD 671m in December.
