UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN TO 11.2%

The unemployment rate dropped by 0.1 points to 11.2% in December 2021, compared to the previous month, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The rate was also down by 1.7 percentage points to 11.3% in December 2021, as compared to December 2020. The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over rose by 2,000 to 3.79 million month-over-month in December. The employment rate increased by 0.3 points to 47.0%, or, 30.14 million, in the same period. The labor force participation rate stood at 52.9%, surging by 0.3 percentage points from November 2021. Some 33.93 million people made up the labor force in December, an increase of 238,000 workers as compared to the previous month.
