PASTORAL GARDEN WITH A PAVILLION ON IT

-

Tariria’s environmental sustainability principles are based on a zero-carbon target and an energy-efficient approach. The critical element of this is the solar farm, which can generate twice as much renewable energy as Tariria consumes. Tan Kay Ngee, the project’s architect and partner, also wanted to design a building that relates to the environment. The first thing they did was to engage landscape designer botanists, not to do anything but calculate the trees on the site, measure the tree trunks, and name the type of trees. Then, the design process started. The location was planned in the corner of the land with the least trees; therefore, it did not block the waterway from the Urartu irrigation system, and no trees were cut. This also enabled the garden to have a function for weddings, banquets, or even an outdoor concert. For the building, Tan Kay Ngee wanted it to be a pavilion in the garden, just like the Kew Gardens of London. “The pavilion will provide all the facilities, but the main point is the garden, not the pavilion itself. That’s why we chose the verys imple color. The steel will be white, just like what you see in Kew Gardens or the greenhouses are in white because it matches the green. The shape of the main building is a leaf. The architecture has the Italian Renaissance esthetic, particularly Palladio”, he described.
