Heralding the beginning of a new era for Turkish Airlines, Istanbul Airport also promises passengers a brand new experience.
“If the world was a country, Istanbul would be its capital.” This quote by Napoléon Bonaparte is a perfect expression of Istanbul’s significance as a center and a city that connects continents. While accumulating a rich history intertwined with monumental architecture and stories, this ancient city looked towards the future and continues to do so today. As time flies by, Istanbul continues to take firm steps to maintain its status as a commercial, financial, and cultural hub and to maintain its progress through contemporary enterprises. In 2018, Istanbul welcomed over 102 million passengers. This shouldn’t come as a surprise because, situated between three continents, Istanbul has the unique advantage of easy and fast access to more than 60 countries within a 5-hour flight radius. This advantage continues to strengthen Istanbul’s significance and reputation in civil aviation. Eventually, this fast traffic and geographical advantages lead to one outcome: bestowing Istanbul, which moves towards becoming the future aviation hub, with a cutting-edge airport with a completely smart design to offer perfect service to all guests and to take passenger experience to a new level. Should we take a quick look at what awaits passengers at the new airport?
Istanbul Airport, slated to serve with a capacity of 200 million passengers per year once all phases are complete, will welcome 90 million passengers annually during the current first phase. In other words, every day, at any given moment hundreds of thousands of people will wait for their flight under the roof in the world’s biggest airport built from foundations up,
reflecting the architecture of Istanbul’s historic domes; try delicacies from Turkish and world cuisines in a food court of 33,000 square meters; shop at the Duty Free Area if traveling internationally; take the children to one of the playgrounds which span a total of 855 square meters in five different areas; complete their boarding process at one of the 15 check-in islands; pass through one of the 113 gates and board their plane. Those who land here will quickly retrieve their baggage from one of the 33 delivery carousels that are a part of the fast baggage transport system, which spans 42 kilometers.
Finding directions at the terminal is no trouble because Istanbul Airport directs passengers from their homes all the way to their flights through indoor and outdoor navigation at the terminal and parking lot. Passengers can complete their boarding process in the fastest and easiest way possible at self check-in kiosks, using self-service baggage drops, automatic passport control, and automatic boarding gate services.
We should also talk about the mobile applications which direct passengers to their flight gate while calculating the amount of time necessary and providing information such as flight destinations, flight times, and delays. They also enable passengers to easily find a product or a store at the terminal and learn about special promotions at nearby stores.
The sky is the limit for Istanbul Airport -you’ll personally see how cutting-edge, spacious, comfortable, and fast it is with every journey.
Our new home
As the national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines calls Istanbul Airport, which is Turkey’s gift to the world, its new home. Therefore, the airline meticulously designed the spaces reserved for itself and its service points in this giant project to best serve its passengers. Inside the giant
