diagram’s contribution to dissolution of “space” code into “time-space” in modern architectural repertory
Melek Kılınç | In modern processes that caused dissolutions/radical changes in the perception and conception of the world, in the architectural practice, as in any practice in relation to the modern context expressed by qualities such as chaos, contradiction, paradox, uncanny, uncertainty, and complexity, it can be mentioned that secular transcendency based constructions which aim to stabilize this modern context or inherent movements fostering with the modern instability/quasi-stability condition. The architectural vocabulary also, as an extension of modern architectural practice, in the context of secular transcendency based constructions in which each word/ concept is defined by the hegemonic relationship on the others, as an intellectual domain that serves as a field of legitimation separated from the operational practice of architecture, is representable with a rigid, hierarchical, fixed, axial schema. However, the architectural vocabulary, by making the diagram –that has the ability actualisiation between intellectual and operational fields- operate in inherent modern chaotic context, evolves into a network, which itself is also diagrammatic, where the connections between the words/concepts are established in short-term, the relations are re-defined each time and in a continuous movement.
