Elifcan Duygun | Ekphrasis creates new spaces for architectural presentation as visual or verbal repetition of visual artworks (and vice versa). Diagram goes beyond architectural presentation and becomes basis of the
design. In this sense, Danteum is a powerful example of ekphrasis’ effect. Terragni reconstructs text of Comedia in Danteum’s design but he doesn’t only copy text line-by-line also but also creates entire meaning into a new spatial organization and form. Danteum follows the spatial path of the poem. It shows that ekphrasis, even if it was not always possible to be used, would add a new dimension into architectural design and representation.
