A “Lodgings” Model in Turkey: Housing Production with LPS and Ereğli Iron Steel Factory Lodgings Example
Nilüfer Karanfil Büyükyıldırım | The housing production policy in Turkey served Eregli Iron and Steel Factories’ “lodgings” practice as a mode of urban scale planning approach shaped by the industrial strategy and development movement notably in the period after 1950. Cities of intensive migration used LPS (Large Panel System) to produce a fast and economical
solution to the housing needs. It’s aimed to discuss the sustainability of this system in the conjunction of Turkey’s housing policy. Danish Larsen-Nielsen principles adopted and applied at this very first prefabricated urban scale construction practice in Turkey, a structural model generated by concrete panels, ease of manufacturing with the advantages of speed. The prefabrication of concrete surpass beyond the application in the field as raw material and transforms into a product which increases the possibilities of the material while preventing the possible work accidents, delays and casualties at the site.
