A Neglected Figure: Architect Melih Koray and Breeze Block Implementa­tions

Hande Tulum, Efsun Ekenyazıcı Güney, Nilay Ünsal Gülmez | Especially in postwar period, architects had put emphasis on the link between modern architectu­re and climatic issues and they developed aesthetic climatic architectu­ral solutions which integrated tropical and modern architectu­re. In order to develop this perspectiv­e, many tools were used. Among them, the breeze block which had been used in early 20th century by Perret and Wright was probably the one that was pervasive in many lands. Turkey was one of the regions that was influenced by the implementa­tions of breeze block. In this paper, the aim is to analyze the importance of breeze block in the architectu­ral practice of one of the prominent architects of Turkey, Melih Koray.
