Türkiye-Uzbekistan relations fostered by history
We can see how effective historical and cultural ties are in the development of economic relations between countries by looking at the cooperation between Türkiye and Uzbekistan. At the end of 31 years since the official start of their relations, the implementation of the preferential trade system between the two countries has also been noted as a pleasing development. Investments and trade between the two countries have also advanced on the basis of strong diplomatic and cultural relations.
One of the fastest developing countries in Central Asia
Türkiye has the honor of being the first country to recognize Uzbekistan, which declared its independence on December 16, 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and to open an embassy in Tashkent on March 4, 1992.
It is one of the fastest developing countries of Central Asia with its geostrategic location.
Up to 60% discount on 12 industrial products
The start of preferential trade between Türkiye and Uzbekistan shows the level of the gradually developing relations. The preferential trade agreement signed in Tashkent on March 29, 2022 was approved by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on March 23, 2023. With the said agreement, Uzbekistan will reduce customs duty by up to 60 percent on 12 industrial products, while it will provide market entry advantage within the scope of quota for a limited number of agricultural products in Türkiye. The Agreements on the Prevention of Double Taxation, Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments, which are still in force, constitute a suitable basis for the development of economic relations.
Turkish contracting companies, which have undertaken a total of 248 projects worth approximately 6.4 billion dollars in Uzbekistan, continue to increase their interest in this country.
