A FARRIERY COURSE OPENED AT THE HORSEMANSHIP TRAINING CENTER

-

The Turkish Jockey Club has opened a farriery course at the Karacabey Horsemanship Training Center with the aim of enhancing service quality in the industry and training farriers to meet global standards. The course, which will last for ( 7) months, will be taught by Mitch Taylor and his team, who are instructors at Kentucky Horseshoeing School, one of the world's leading farrier schools and also founded and owned by Mitch Taylor himself.

Throughout the residential course, all training and subsistence expenses of the participants will be covered by the Turkish Jockey Club. Furthermore, during the course period, a monthly stipend of 1,500 TL (one thousand five hundred Turkish Liras) will be provided to the participants to cover essential expenses. Following the entirely cost-free course, the only requirement is for graduates to work within the TJK for a minimum of three (3) years starting from the graduation date. Otherwise, all incurred expenses will need to be reimbursed to the Turkish Jockey Club. The course, implemented with a substantial budget to address a significant gap in the industry, will inevitably bring benefits to Turkish horse racing.

BOTH SCHOOL AND WORK

With the regulation change, as the training period at the Apprentice Training Center has been extended to three years, apprentice trainees who have entered the 3rd grade have started exercising horses in morning training sessions under the supervision of riding instructors. While exercising the horses under the guidance of their instructors, the apprentices who are also continuing their 3rd-grade studies are expected to start horse riding at Istanbul, Kocaeli, and Bursa during the winter season. Even though they will be riding horses in training and races, the apprentices will also continue their residential education at the school. Apprentices, supervised by riding instructors, will be able to ride horses with temporary licenses until the end of the third year, and based on end-of-year assessments and evaluations, they can obtain their permanent licenses.
