154th Deutsches Derby was held in Hamburg, and it was Fantastic Moon (Sea The Moon-Fragipani/ Jukebox Jury) who emerged victorious. In the final 300 meters of the race, Fantastic Moon's impressive sprint from the outside, drawing strength from the cheers of the spectators in the grandstands, reminded everyone of his father who had won the same race similarly back in 2014. Sea The Moon (Sea The Stars- Sanwa/ Monsun) had also won the Derby with a remarkable 11-length lead, leaning on the outer rail.

Fantastic Moon, ridden by Rene Piechulek, completed the 2400-meter race in 2 minutes and 33.11 seconds, finishing 2 ¼ lengths ahead. Mr. Hollywood (Iguitos-Margie's Music/ Hurricane Run) finished 2nd, while Veracruz (Cracksman-Winnemark/Lando) came in third in the fiercely contested race.

In the 5 races Fantastic Moon has participated in, he had 4 wins and a runner-up with the Deutsches Derby being his first G1 victory. During his 2 and 3-year-old campaigns, he had won one G3 race each. His regular jockey Rene Piechulek had previously gained international recognition after winning the 2021 G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe with Torquator Tasso (Adlerflug-Tijuana/Toylsome). As for the jockey and trainer of Fantastic Moon, Sarah Steinberg, they secured their first victory in the German Derby.
