Dunya columnist Ozcan Kadioglu examined 140 countries to find the economic performanc­e of nations governed by different systems. According to Kadioglu’s research, the level of prosperity is higher in countries governed by a parliament­ary system.

“In general, the vast majority of countries in Europe are governed by the parliament­ary system, while those in the Americas and Africa are governed by a presidency,” Kadioglu said. The issue is particular­ly potent in Turkey, which held a referendum on converting its political system from parliament­ary into an executive presidency on Sunday.
