Jobless rate at seven year high

Turkey’s unemployme­nt rate rose to 13 percent in January, the highest since February 2010. The rate showed a yearon-year 1.9 percent increase, according to data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (Turkstat). While the country’s non-agricultur­al unemployme­nt was announced at 15.2 percent with a

2.2 percentage point increase, youth unemployme­nt increased to 24.5 percent with a 5.3 percentage point increase. Turkey’s seasonally adjusted unemployme­nt rate was 11.8 percent in the January 2017 period with 0.2 percentage point decrease. Labor force participat­ion rate was 51.5 percent with 0.8 percentage point increase.
