Turkey’s future relies on strong defense sector
Turkey needs to be strong and establish a national defense industry, especially from its own resources, the undersecretary for defense industries said on Thursday. “Our efforts will continue until we reach the best level in the defense industry for our freedom and future,” Ismail Demir told Anadolu Agency at the 13th International Defense Industry Fair in Istanbul. Demir acknowledged Turkey’s challenges in reaching a $25 billion defense industry export target, as part of a series of objectives for the country’s centennial in 2023. Defense exports were $1.7 billion last year. “We will work hard and continue intensive efforts to close the gap without revising those targets, because it is not easy to compete with international players that have led the sector for many years,” Demir said.
