Crude steel output rises in first five months of the year

Crude steel production rose by 11.5 percent on an annual basis in the first five months of 2017, reaching 15.1 million tons, the Turkish Steel Producers’ Associatio­n (TCUD) reported on Tuesday. Turkey is the world’s eighth-largest crude steel producer, accounting for about 2.2 percent of global crude steel output, it said. Global crude steel production climbed 4.7 percent in the first five months of the year compared to the same period in 2016, reaching 694.9 million tons.
