Current account deficit widens in July
Turkey’s current account def c t reached $5.1 b ll on n July 2017, up almost $2.7 b ll on yearon-year, off c al data revealed on Sept. 15. The bank sa d th s ncrease n the current account was ma nly due to the r se n the def c t n goods tems by nearly $3.8 b ll on to $7.3 b ll on n the month. Travel tems, wh ch const tute a major part of the serv ces account, recorded a net nflow of $2.3 b ll on n July, ncreas ng by $652 m ll on compared to the same month n 2016, the bank added. Meanwh le, the country’s current account def c t n the f rst seven months of 2017 stood at $25.96 b ll on, up from $4.47 b ll on compared to the JanuaryJuly 2016 per od, and the 12-month roll ng def c t rose to $37.11 m ll on,” sa d the Central Bank of Turkey.
