Government support for SMEs tops $1.4 billion

Government funds used to support small- and medium-sized enterprise­s have topped TRY 5.3 billion (nearly $1.4 billion) as of 2018, Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on March 1. “We have increased supports, which were TRY 14.5 million ($3.8 million) in 2002,” Yildirim told an entreprene­urial award ceremony hosted by Turkey’s Small and Medium Enterprise­s Developmen­t Organizati­on, or KOSGEB. Yildirim said the government had raised the upper limit of state supports from which SMEs can benefit to TRY 125 million ($32.8 million) from TRY 40 million ($10.5 million).
