Ford Otosan to produce ‘domestic gearbox’ with British Ricardo
In February, Turkey’s Ford Otosan, an affiliate of Koc Holding, took initial steps toward a domestically produced gear box, the second most important part of the automobile after the engine. Ford Otosan announced an investment plan of 49.5 million euros in the plant in Eskişehir for the “domestic gearbox”. While Turkey’s automotive industry waited for the important development, an interesting detail emerged in the international media: the domestic gearbox would be produced with foreign partners.UK-based Ricardo would undertake the engineering work of the domestic gearbox scheduled to go to market within two years. Otosan will now cooperate with the company in the next generation heavy commercial vehicle gearboxes. British Ricardo will provide technical consulting services while designing and developing the latest technology gearboxes to be used by Ford Otosan’s new generation Ford trucks and tractors, with the production to be carried out by Ford Otosan.
