Turkey: Short-term external debt stock reaches $114.3B
Turkey’s short-term external debt stock – debt that must be pa d n the next 12 months – reached $114.3 b ll on n August, down 3.6 percent from the end of 2017, the Turk sh Central Bank sa d on Wednesday. Short-term external debt stock decreased 7.4 percent to $62.3 b ll on wh le other sectors’ short-term external debt stock fell by 0.4 percent to $50.6 b ll on dur ng the same per od, accord ng to the central bank. “From the borrower s de, publ c sector short-term debt, wh ch cons sts of publ c banks, ncreased by 1.8 percent to $22.5 b ll on, and pr vate sector short-term debt decreased by 5.8 percent to $90.3 b ll on compared w th the end of 2017,” the central bank sa d n a statement. More than half (52.6 percent) of the country’s short-term external debt stock was denom nated n dollars followed by 33.2 percent n euros, 11.5 percent n Turk sh l ras, and 2.7 percent n other currenc es.
