Goztepe: A success story from Izmir
Some 25 percent of those who bought tickets or own a season ticket do not attend games. However, Goztepe Spor is one team that has quite a lower rate of 7.4 percent in this category. Goztepe is one of the most popular clubs in Izmir, on the west coast of Turkey, along with Karsiyaka. The club is managed by businessman Mehmet Sepil, the founder of Genel Enerji, an oil company listed on the London Stock Exchange. Goztepe posted a total of TRY 92.5 million in revenues in the 2017-18 season from broadcast, match-day and commercial revenues. It has eight sponsors. Its success has come with the increase in the number of fans coming to its stadium. With an average of 4,000 spectators per match, it reached the second league championship in the 2016-17 season. Last year it increased its number of fans at the stadium to over 7,000 and is the top club in terms of increased attendance. It has over 56,000 registered fans on Passolig records. The number of its fans watching the game in its stadium is expected to increase with a newly-built stadium.
