Rotana chases new hotel projects in Turkey
Rotana, one of the Middle East’s most powerful hotel chains, has opened its fourth hotel in Turkey in partnership with Mar Yapi in Gunesli, Istanbul in May. The $80 million investment is the first hotel for the group in Europe, and also the first hotel it has launched in a partnership. The hotel’s general manager, Emre Kocamustafaogul, said that Rotana Group manages 66 hotels in the Middle East, Africa and Turkey. “However, becoming partners in the investment of a hotel is taking place for the first time. 40 percent of this hotel’s investment in Gunesli was made by Rotana. The group’s plan is to reach up to 100 hotels by 2020. We continue talks with investors in Turkey and chasing opportunities,” he added.
Kocamustafaogul said that the tourism sector had a very positive year in 2018. Room prices increased by 30 percent compared to last year, especially in Istanbul. “We aim to increase our occupancy rate to 80 percent and prices by 25 percent in 2019. Our hotel is 30 minutes away from Istanbul Airport, even at peak hours. Currently, airline companies are accommodating their passengers in the Yesilkoy and Bakirkoy areas. We expect those passengers to move here after the airport becomes operational.”
