Swedes gamble on Turkey’s energy efficiency

Turkey has attracted the attention of Swedish companies with its energy efficiency upgrades launched in recent years in accordance with its targets to reduce foreign-source dependency. Last week, Swedish companies ABB, Atlas Copco, Arlight, Nederman, SKF and Systemair HSK came together with Turkish industrial­ists at the Energy Efficiency in Industry meeting organized by the Swedish Consulate General and Business Sweden. The companies promoted their productivi­ty solutions and listened to the specific needs of Turkish companies.

Therese Hydén, Consul General of Sweden in Istanbul, underlined the successful commercial relations over many years between Turkey and Sweden and said that there are more than 150 Swedish companies in Turkey. With their production facilities in Turkey, more than 30 Swedish companies contribute to the country’s economy by exporting as well as supplying for the domestic market, she added. According to the informatio­n based on TurkStat data Hydén gave, total trade volume between the two countries, which was $ 3.2 billion in 2017, was $ 2.7 billion in from January to October 2018. “Systemair HSK, one of the companies attending the event, opened its new factory, worth 15 million euros in 2018. The new production line investment Arlight is planning will expand its production area to 18,000 square meters from 10,000,” Hydén said.

Hydén stated that Sweden is one of the global leaders in terms of its investment­s and studies in the field of energy efficiency. “Sweden’s target is increase its efficiency by 50 percent by 2030 compared to 2005 and aims to produce 100 percent renewable energy in 2040,” she said.
