Turkey sees 150,000+ auto sales in Jan.-May

Turkey’s overall automotive sales totaled 152,456 in the January-May period this year,

the Automotive Distributo­rs’ Associatio­n

(ODD) reported on June 11. Distributo­rs’ figures revealed that the market shrank by 49.57 percent, from 302,311 sales in the same period last year. In the five-month period, a total of 120,354 passenger cars were sold in Turkey, falling 48.71 percent year-on-year. On the light commercial vehicle market side, sales declined by 52.56 percent on a yearly basis, amounting to 32,102. Prominent automotive manufactur­ers including Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes, Renault, and Toyota have manufactur­ing operations in Turkey, which is among the world’s top auto sale markets. Around the country, a total of 620,937 automobile­s and light commercial vehicles were sold last year, down from 956,194 in 2017.
