Turkey re­ceives 61,200+ trade­mark ap­pli­ca­tions in H1

The Turk­ish Patent and Trade­mark Of­fice (TurkPa­tent) re­ceived 61,278 trade­mark ap­pli­ca­tions - 53,645 of them do­mes­tic - in

the first six months of 2019. The num­ber of trade­mark ap­pli­ca­tions in­creased by

1.4 per­cent year-on-year in the first half of 2019, ac­cord­ing to data re­leased on July

22. The of­fice also re­ceived 8,342 patent ap­pli­ca­tions dur­ing the same pe­riod, up by 6.1 per­cent com­pared to the first six months of 2018. 1,358 util­ity model and 21,559 de­sign ap­pli­ca­tions were also made be­tween Jan­uary and June. 97.3 per­cent of util­ity mod­els and 86.8 per­cent of the de­sign ap­pli­ca­tions were do­mes­tic, ac­cord­ing to the data. Last year, the of­fice re­ceived 120,008 trade­marks, 18,504 patents, 2,770 util­ity mod­els, and 42,083 de­sign ap­pli­ca­tions.

News­pa­per, mag­a­zine cir­cu­la­tion falls in 2018

Turkey saw an an­nual de­cline of 17.6 per­cent in the cir­cu­la­tion of news­pa­pers and mag­a­zines in 2018, the coun­try’s sta­tis­ti­cal au­thor­ity an­nounced on July 25. TurkS­tat’s print me­dia statis­tics re­vealed that the an­nual cir­cu­la­tion of news­pa­pers/mag­a­zines pub­lished in Turkey to­taled nearly 1.37 bil­lion last year, with 94.2 per­cent con­sist­ing of news­pa­per cir­cu­la­tion. The in­sti­tute said the to­tal num­ber of dailies, in­clud­ing trade pub­li­ca­tions, and mag­a­zines de­creased by 2.6 per­cent to 5,962, 58.7 per­cent of which were mag­a­zines. “91.3 per­cent of the news­pa­pers pub­lished in 2018 were lo­cal, 6.9 per­cent were na­tional and 1.8 per­cent were re­gional. 81.6 per­cent of the to­tal an­nual news­pa­per cir­cu­la­tion was na­tional news­pa­pers, 17.6 per­cent were lo­cal and 0.7 per­cent re­gional,” it said. TurkS­tat noted that the coun­try saw a steep fall in the num­ber of daily news­pa­pers, down to 280 last year from 342 in 2017.
