THY celebrates 87th birthday

Turkish Airlines is celebrating its 87th birthday. Founded as the General Directorate of State Airlines on May 20th, 1933 under the Ministry of Defense, THY made its first international flight in 1947 to Athens. In 1977, the Treasury acquired THY shares that were made available to foreign investment. The company digitalized in 1996 with www.thy.com and became the airline flying to the highest number of destinations in 2013. THY also became the first airline sponsoring the UEFA EURO in 2016. The company currently has 360 planes in its fleet and flies to 319 destinations in 127 countries.
