Direct Turkish Airlines flights to Australia will help business diplomacy

The digital event, organized with the contribution of EGD Chairman Celal Toprak and moderated by Dunya’s online editor Cigdem Yucesoy Subasi, hosted DEIK/Turkey-Australia Business Council Chairman Mustafa Mertcan, who spoke about trade relations and cooperation opportunities between Australia and Turkey.

Australia is an important importing country, ranking in the top ten in the world for per capita income and boasting the world’s 13th largest economy.

“Bilateral trade may be increasing in recent years, but we, as Turkey-Australia Business Council, do not find the figures adequate,” said Mertcan, adding that the council is organizing business forums, round tables and B2B meetings to increase bilateral trade. He also underlined the importance of the free trade agreement to be signed between the two countries and Turkish Airlines’ direct flights to Australia, which are close to being launched. Mertcan emphasized that Turkish Airlines flights are very important for the development of trade volume and diplomacy between the two countries.

The trade volume with the countries which have free trade agreements (FTAs) with Turkey are growing, Mertcan reminded. “Considering the market entry opportunities that FTAs provide, the trade volume with the countries with which the FTAs are signed is growing faster,” he said. “I believe that the signing of the FTA between Turkey and Australia will grow bilateral relations and further develop businesses. We continue our search for business and investment opportunities between the two countries.”

To accelerate the process, the Turkey-Australia Business Council will introduce the Australian Business Directory very soon and offer it to business people and entrepreneurs who want to do business with Australia.
