The World Tribology Congress held in Lyon

The 7th World Tribology Congress and its Partner Event the 47th Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology took place between July 10-15 2022 in Lyon, France.

WTC 2022 was the seventh edition of a series of congress organized every four years, following WTC 2017 (Beijing), WTC 2013 (Torino), WTC 2009 (Kyoto), WTC 2005 (Washington), WTC 2001 (Vienna) and the very first held in London in 1997.

The aim of the 7th World Tribology Congress was to highlight recent important progress in all aspects of Tribology, strengthen the links between academy and industry, provide a unique opportunity for discussion concerning the latest developments in Tribology and to promote international collaborations and exchanges.

The Congress consisted of 4 plenary + 4 keynote speakers, 41 invited talks, 700+ oral presentations and 300+ posters on topics at the cutting edge of the various Tribology disciplines. The scientific program included 11 themes, such as fundamentals of friction, interfacial flow and thin film lubrication, biotribology and tribology to face the education and societal challenges. The Congress also offered a wide exhibition and various events, scientific and nonscientific, some of them dedicated to young tribologists.

Reducing the environmental impact of the WTC 2022 Congress in Lyon was one of the main objectives and challenges of the organizing committee. Besides different actions during the event, organizers decided to dedicate part of the registration fees of all participants to support worldwide international organizations and/or non-governmental organization (NGO) acting in environmental projects such as carbon compensation. Organizers also encouraged the sustainable mobility to the Congress venue and took actions to reduce the on-site footprint.
