Prof. Şefika Şehvar Beşiroğlu
İTÜ Türk Musikisi Devlet Konservatuarı Müzikoloji Bölümü Öğretim Üyesi ve İTÜ MİAM Müdürü merhume Prof. Ş. Şehvar Beşiroğlu’nun arşiv ve koleksiyonu sanatseverlerle buluştu.
26 Mayıs 2017 tarihinde aramızdan ayrılan Prof. Beşiroğlu’nun ablası Avukat Beyza Koral, Beşiroğlu’na ait yüzlerce kitap, defter, el yazması nota, çalgı, CD ve DVD arşivinden oluşan koleksiyonu İTÜ Türk Musikisi Devlet Konservatuarı Prof. Ercümend Berker ve Prof. Ş. Şehvar Beşiroğlu Kütüphane, Arşiv ve Dokümantasyon Merkezi’ne bağışladı.

The sister of Prof. Beşiroğlu, who passed away on May 26th, 2017, has granted hundreds of books, notebooks, handwritten musical notes, instruments, and a collection comprising an archive of CDs&DVDs to ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory Prof. Ercümend Berker and Prof. Ş. Şehvar Beşiroğlu Library Arhcive and Documentation Center.
İTÜ Ailesi’nin büyük bir değeriydi. Bilimselliği ve sanatçılığı aynı şekilde özümsemiş nadide bir kişiliğe sahipti. Akademisyen kimliğinin yanında müzikal açıdan köklerden beslenen girişimci ve yenilikçi bir kişiliği vardı. Yaşam sevinciyle dolu, her zaman neşeli, çevresine olumlu nitelikte bir enerji yayan ve çalışmaktan asla yılmayan bir insandı. Değerli hocamızın hatıralarının İTÜ

Şehvar Beşiroğlu, İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Türk Musikisi Devlet Konservatuarı Müzikoloji Bölümü öğretim üyesiydi. Kurum aidiyeti ve sadakatini en somut bir şekilde gözlemlediğim az sayıda akademik insandan birisiydi. Bölümün, türlü engellemelere karşın kuruluşunu sağlayan, Türk Makam Müziği'nin aykırı kuramcısı Yalçın Tura'nın kurumsal takipçisiydi. Şehvar Beşiroğlu, Tura'dan sonra bölüm başkanı oldu; onun odasını devraldı; ancak adını kapıdan sökmeden kendi adını ekleyerek, âdil bir yönetici olmaya çalıştı. Bu yaklaşım, özelde Şehvar Beşiroğlu, genelde ise Türk Musikisi Devlet Konservatuarı’nda benimsenen kuruculara saygı, silsileyi sürdürme gayreti ve (İTÜ’nün düsturu olan) “yüzyıllardır çağdaş” olma ilkesi doğrultusunda çalışmayı özetleyen güzel bir simgedir. Türkiye’nin, tabela düzeyinde kalıp entelektüel üretimle alıp vereceği olmayan birbirinden güzide üniversitelerinde, değil eski bölüm başkanının ismini saklamak, birbirine silah çeken öğretim elemanlarının bulunduğunu düşünürsek,
İTÜ Konservatuar’ın, kendisini var eden mirasa sahip çıkma sorumluluğunu saygıyla selamlamalıyız. Şehvar Beşiroğlu, her akademik ve sanatsal etkinliğinde, yalnızca bizzat eğitim aldığı hocalarını değil, bütün bir Türk Makam Müziği geleneğini daima anan, tarihsel birikim olmadan ciddi bir yenilik yapılamayacağına inanmış bir insandı. Bu yaklaşımıyla da birçok genç sanatçı ve bilim insanına örnek olmuştur.
Şehvar Beşiroğlu'nun müzikolojik araştırmaları önemli bir kısmı toplumsal cinsiyet olgusuna odaklanmıştır. Hayattaki bilinçli kadın tavrını, bilimsel araştırmalarına yansıtarak, Osmanlı müzik dünyasında kadının yeri, kadın çalgıcılar, müzik üzerinden toplumsal cinsiyetin inşası gibi konuları farklı araştırmalarla ele alıp yayınlar yapmıştır... “Benzerinde varolmak: Şehvar Beşiroğlu’nun ardından”… Prof. Dr. Ali Ergur She is one of the greatest members of ITU family. She had a rare personality who digested the science and the artistry in the same way. She had an enterprising and innovative personality that nourished musically from roots alongside her academic standing.
She was full of joy, always cheerful, emitting positive energy to her environment and never tired of working. It has a particular importance for us that the memories of our esteemed teacher will be cherished within the body of ITU TMDK. Şehvar Beşiroğlu was the lecturer in
ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory, Musicology Department. She was one of the few academic people I have observed in a most tangible way for her institutional fidelity and loyalty. She was the follower of Yalçın Tura, the contrary theorist of the Turkish Makam Music, which provided the establishment of the department despite various obstacles. Şehvar Beşiroğlu became the head of the department after Tura; took over his room; but she tried to be a fair director, adding her name without removing the predecessor’s from the door. This attitude is a good symbol, adopted particularly by Şehvar Beşiroğlu and generally by Turkish Music State Conservatory, outlining the respect to the founders, the effort to maintain the lineage, and (as a motto embraced by ITU) working hard principally to be modern for centuries. At the distinguished Turkish universities that are unfortunately recognized just by the nameplates rather than their productiveness, if we consider reserving the name of the former head of the department while there exist some instructors who are pulling guns on each other, we should salute the ITU Conservatory's responsibility to take care of the inheritance which is the source of its existence. In her every academic and artistic activities, she was the one who mentioned not only her teachers, but also the tradition of a whole Turkish Makam Music and believed that no serious innovation could be made without historical background. With this approach, she became a model to many young artists and scientists.
A significant part of Şehvar Beşiroğlu's musicological research has focused on the phenomenon of social gender. 2016 Eylül’ünde Uludağ Üniversitesi’nde gerçekleştirilen bir kongrede Prof. Martin Stokes, Prof. Beşiroğlu’nu kürsüden konuşmasını yapmak üzere takdim ederken “dünya küçük, şöhreti büyük Şehvar Hocamız” demiş ve salonda büyük bir alkış kopmuştu. İTÜ’de gerçekleşen törendeki etkileyici kalabalık onun insanlarla kurduğu sağlam dostlukların, öğrencilerinden esirgemediği sevgi ve ilginin bir tezahürüydü şüphesiz. Değerlerine karşı hoyratlığıyla nam salan bir kültürel coğrafyada Şehvar Hoca renkli ve saygın kişiliğiyle, akademide ve sanatta bıraktığı izle bu makus talihi yenmeyi başardı. Haber: Osman Keskin / Faselis In a congress held at Uludağ University in September 2016, while inviting Prof. Beşiroğlu to the lectern to give her speech, Martin Stokes introduced her as “the world is small but her reputation is huge” and there was a big applause in the hall. The impressive crowd at the ITU was indeed a manifestation of her solid friendship with people, and her love and care that she had never deprived her students of. In a cultural geography which is known for its rudeness against its values, Prof. Beşiroğlu had managed to get rid of this bad fortune with her colorful and respectable personality and the impression that she had left behind in academia and art.
