SONGS CONDEMNING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN CHANTED UNITEDLY
Maltepe Belediyesi, 25 Kasım Kadına Yönelik Şiddete Karşı Uluslararası Mücadele Günü’nde, Türkiye’nin ilk ve en önemli kadın korolarından Sirene’yi konuk etti. Şef Volkan Akkoç yönetimindeki çoksesli koro, “Değişimin Sesi” isimli konserle dinleyicilerin karşısına çıktı.
2014 yılında kurulan, adını Yunan mitolojisinin gizemli ve güzel sesli yaratıkları Sirenler’den alan Sirene, Türk kadınının mücadeleci ve özgür karakterini Batı ve Anadolu’nun folklorik müzikleriyle harmanladı. “Uzak denizlerden gelir sesimiz” mottosunu kullanan konservatuarlı kadın sanatçı ve mezunlardan oluşan koro, konserinde, enstrüman olarak insan sesini kullandı. “Divane Aşık”, “Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım”, “Sarı Gelin” isimli sevilen halk türkülerini kendilerine özgü yorumlarıyla seslendiren koro, performansıyla büyük beğeni topladı.
On November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Maltepe Municipality welcomed and hosted Sirene, the first and one of the most significant women’s branches in Turkey. The polyphonic choir conducted by Volkan Akkoç performed for the audience at the concert of ‘Sound of Change’.
Established in 2014 and named after the Sirens who lured passers-by with their enchanting music and singing voices in Greek mythology, Sirene delicately blended the fighting and free spirit of the Turkish women with folkloric music from the west and beautiful Anatolia. Formed of female conservatory students and alumna, the choir’s motto is “Hear us! We are coming from distant seas.” Human voice was used as instruments at the concert. The choir had renditions of folk songs such as “Divane Aşık”, “Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım”, “Sarı Gelin”, and was enthusiastically applauded.
Anadolu türkülerinin yanında Meksika, Estonya ve Bulgaristan’dan eserleri dinleyicilere sunan koro, ünlü şair Orhan Veli Kanık’ın “Bedava” isimli şiirini de seslendirdi. Konser, Aysel Gürel’in yazdığı “Ünzile” isimli şarkıyla sona erdi.
In addition to the Anatolian ballads, the choir also performed from Mexican, Estonian and Bulgarian folk songs. ‘Bedava’ the very well-known poem by Orhan Veli Kanık was recited at the concert, too. The concert ended with “Ünzile”, a song written by the late Aysel Gürel.
